Today, millions of women in their 40's and 50's are on the threshold of
menopause. Many sail through it without symptoms, but many others experience
a wide range of discomforts such as hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings,
etc. Bone loss is another concern.

Menopause is what happens when estrogen and progesterone levels fall and menstruation ends. Average estrogen levels only fall from 40% to 60% in menopausal women, but progesterone levels can fall to zero. This is called "estrogen dominance."
"Estrogen dominance" is a term coined by Dr. John R. Lee (1929-2003) who wrote, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" and "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause." He believed that estrogen dominance is prevelant in industrialized societies due to a number of factors.
Common Situations For Which Estrogen Dominance Occurs |
Conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy high doses of estrogen and the use of progestins. See AIM Renewed Balance® (natural progesterone). |
Premenopause premature follicle dysfunction resulting from annovulation and lack of progesterone long before the onset of menopause. |
Birth control pills suppress one's own hormone production and create a state of estrogen dominance and progesterone deficiency. |
Hysterectomy Women who have had a hysterectomy leading to dysfunction of the ovaries or surgical removal of the ovaries (Oophorectomy). |
Postmenopause (no periods for 12 months) especially in overweight women. |
Lack of exercise and a excessively high calorie diet rich in animal fat, sugar, refined starches and processed foods. |
Xenoestrogens foreign substances (pollutants and chemicals) originating outside the body that have estrogen activity. |
